Scavenger Hunt

Opening Day

Be a Superhero

I can’t believe it is only a week until BSU Saves the Day! I have been working on getting this day set up since February and now it’s so close. This day is very important to me. I believe it is our duty as students and staff to give back to the Muncie community. There are three ways to get involved while earning Ashley Points.

The first way to get involved is the food drive benefitting Second Harvest Food Bank. Boxes will be placed at the residence halls starting on Monday, October 3 and they will be there until Thursday, October 6. Student organizations will have to drop off their donations to the Alumni Office by Thursday, October 6 by 5pm. This is a great way to help stop hunger as well as getting Ashley Points.

The second way to participate in BSU Saves the Day is an American Red Cross Blood Drive. It will take place at Pruis Hall from 9:00am to 3:00pm. Help save a life! Why not make an appointment online to save your time? Potential donors may go to www.redcrossblood.org and enter the sponsor code: ballstate to set up an appointment. Walk-ins are also welcome.

Volunteering is the third way to get involved. Why not take two to three hours out of your day to give back to the community? On October 5, student and staff have the opportunity to volunteer at local non-profit organizations such as ARF, Cornerstone Center for the Arts, Muncie Mission, and Muncie Parks Department. This is a great way to get community service hours for Greek life, class, or just volunteer because you want to. I’m really excited that we have teamed up with Freshmen Connections for transportation to and from these non-profit organizations.

I hope everyone is excited as I am about BSU Saves the Day! Get ready to be the SUPERHERO for the community!

Ball State's Got Talent

With just under two weeks until we kick off homecoming week, I just have to say how amazing this journey has been! The Homecoming Steering Committee has been hard at work since February and it’s finally going to come together. It’s unreal and exciting- I just know that all of you Cardinals are going to have a fantastic time during It’s a Bird … It’s a Game … It’s Homecoming!

On Monday and Tuesday, Talent Search auditions were held in the Alumni Center. Over 60 acts signed up to audition; I’m positive that this year’s show will be the best yet! From poets to pianists, there’s an abundance of talent out and about Ball State’s campus. Be on the lookout for the list of our top 20 finalists.

Something new that I’ve been working on for the 27th Annual Student Scholarship Talent Search is to incorporate videos before each number. A team of two amazing people have dedicated themselves to creating short clips to present so that you can have more insight to each and every contestant. Plus, we’ve got GIVEAWAYS for our show this year! The first 250 people to walk through the doors of Emens on October 4th will receive their very own homecoming stress ball!

Royalty Fashion Show

I know everyone has been looking forward to Homecoming week since classes started and you’ve been busy thinking about your favorite superhero, but I want everyone to take note and add one more thing to your superhero induced craziness and come on out for the FIRST official event for Homecoming!

Homecoming may be a week and a half away, but we like to get things started early! The Royalty Fashion Show is today, Wednesday, Sept. 21st at 7:30 p.m. in Pruis Hall. And admission is only $1 at the door! I’d say that’s a pretty good deal.

What is the Royalty Fashion Show? All last week, your 85 Homecoming King & Queen Candidates nominated by student organizations, worked hard all around campus to promote themselves to get you to vote for them! On Wednesday, all of these candidates will be strutting their stuff in famous couple costumes for your entertainment. In the past we’ve had Arnold and Gerald from Hey Arnold! and The Duggar Family from TLC. It’s a great night of fun and I know you won’t want to miss it!

At the end of the night, the Top 10 King & Queen Candidates will be announced and we will be giving out an award for Best Costume! Two weeks later, at Air Jam on Thursday, October 6th at 9:00 p.m. in Emens Auditorium, the King, Queen and Court will be announced.

And don’t forget to get your entry forms turned in for all of the exciting events we have planned during Homecoming by tomorrow, Thursday, Sept. 22nd at 4:00 p.m. You can turn them in to either the Alumni Association Office or stop by the Art & Journalism Building where we will be sitting at a table all day. To access the forms or for more information visit the Ball State website.

So don’t forget, the ROYALTY FASHION SHOW is on Wednesday, Sept. 21st at 7:30 p.m. in Pruis Hall. Admission is $1 at the door. And all ENTRY FORMS need to be turned in by Thursday, Sept. 22nd at 4:00 p.m. Thanks and hope to see you all at the Royalty Fashion Show!

14 Days Left!

Only 14 days until HOMECOMING!!! I hope everyone is pumped, because all of the events are going to be amazing, especially the awards that the winners will receive! There is nice a variety of events happening this year, so hopefully everyone can find something they like :) My personal favorite is Air Jam. I cannot wait to see the creativity coming out this year in performances, especially with the theme "It’s a bird… It’s a game… It’s HOMECOMING!!" Homecoming Steering Committee has been working hard so I hope everyone enjoys everything going on that week :) So get excited with your superhero gear and come out to as many events as possible, this is a week you DON'T want to miss!

Get Your Game Face On…

In just 2 and a half weeks the best week of the year will begin…HOMECOMING!!! This year we are all about superheroes. Whether you are a fan of Batman or Superman, everyone will love Homecoming. The Homecoming Steering Committee has been working hard since February to bring you the best homecoming you will ever have.

It all starts with Opening Day. We will have an amazing time watching teams battle it out in corn hole, root beer pong, and tug-of-war. If you aren’t one to compete come out and cheer on your friends and get FREE ICE CREAM!!! Yes, I did say free ice cream.

After a long day there is nothing like dancing the night away. I know what you are thinking that sounds like the perfect night!! Well then don’t miss out on our dance party after Opening Day Games. We will have DJ Heartbreaker there! And I know you all love free stuff…so guess what?!?!? FREE GLOW STICKS!!

I know that you can barely hold back your excitement, so spread that word about Opening Day and Homecoming.
